BEST OF BREEDS at Virginia Kennel Club, 6-24-06. Thank you to judge Cindy Vogels!

The Border Terrier is an energetic, happy breed that was originally bred for foxhunting alongside foxhounds. Its legs are long enough to follow a rider on horseback, darting in and out of the grass to look for quarry as you ride out on the trail.

I discovered Border Terriers at the Kalamazoo Kennel Club AKC dog show Memorial Day weekend, 1996 where I was showing in Australian Cattle Dogs (I co-founded the ACD Rescue of Michigan in 1990 and did mostly that for 14 years. I lived with and/or owned more than 300 ACDs in that time).

After two years of research and looking for what I wanted in a Border bloodline, I bought my foundation bitch, Binewood's Prize Hot Pepper, CGC from Binewood BTs (Judy Odom) in Austin, Texas. She is a daughter of Ch Calirose Prize Patrol (Eddie), whom I admired at every show at which I saw him.

Unfortunately, Pepper hated showing! So, in summer of 2003 after being bred to 1996 BTCOA National Specialty RWD Ch Ketka Sticks and Stones, she had my first bred-by show bitch, Zuni (Dalahast Desert Fetish).

After coming very close to her Ch, I bred Zuni in spring of 2006 (to Dogwood's Autumn Harvest, 'Harvey'), during a dieting show break.

She gave us Dalahast Xocoatl Brio y Caldo (Zahra), which means 'hot and fast chocolate' in ancient Mayan, (who started her show career in fall 2007) and Dalahast Cruising for Burgers (Zappa/Zeppelin), who now lives in a happy pet home in St Louis MO.

Steve and I believe in raising our Borders in a fun, active environment rich in really unusual experiences that will prepare them for life in any household. We truly do enjoy watching them expand their tiny minds as they grow up!
They experience clicker training for tricks and basic obedience starting at about 6-7 weeks, leash training, socializing, loud noises, cats, children (if possible), climbing on every possible obstacle, stairs, crates, car rides, walking on a mirror at about 3 weeks old (for depth perception development), water, baths, grooming, hunting in the field and lots and lots of individual love!
